Trains run 7 days a week from Swindon to Westbury via Melksham, with a few services extended south to Southampton via Salisbury, and north to Cheltenham Spa via Gloucester. Connections are available for other destinations at Swindon, Chippenham, Trowbridge and Westbury, with through tickets available from Melksham to over 2500 destinations in Great Britain.

18 trains call at Melksham each day, Monday to Friday (that's 9 each way), with 16 on Saturdays and 11 calling on winter Sundays and 13 on summer Sundays. Trains are liable to alteration at the weekend when there are engineering works on the line or other lines nearby, as long distance express trains then have to share the single line.

Melksham Station is wheelchair friendly, and all trains carry boarding ramps. The station is just 10 minutes walk from the town bridge, and offers free car parking for rail users. There is also a cycle rack at the station, and a limited number of cycles may be taken on the train too.

Tickets may be bought when you travel, although longer distance passengers may be able to get a lower "advanced" fare if they are certain of which time train they'll want to catch - allow 7 days for delivery of such tickets at present. Train fares from 5th January 2015 - day return to Swindon costs £6.90 (off peak) or £9.50 (peak, on the 07:20 or 07:49 trains, Monday to Friday). Return travel to London at weekends (and super offpeak during the week) costs £51.50, with advance purchase tickets for single journeys for specific trains costing as little as £13. Children pay just half of these prices (free under 5) and railcard holders get a 34% reduction on most fares - cards are available for anyone over 60 years of age (senior card), aged 16 to 25, travelling "two together", disabled, and with the forces.
